Munich 21/5/15

We started our Last day in Munich at the train station. There are fewer trains running due to the train strike so we felt we should make a reservation for the train to Salzburg tomorrow morning. When you are a senior you have to buy euro-rail first class tickets. Usually there are trains every hour to Salzberg and reservations are not needed. Today there were no more seats in first class so we made reservations in second class. The train station had fewer people in it for many had taken to their cars.

Today we walked to the river Isar and visited the Church St Lucas. On our return we had to stop off at the HofbrÀuhaus and have a morning beer and meat loaf with potato salad. The building has hundreds of tables and hundreds of beer steins padlocked on shelves for the regulars. When you meet with you friends, you unlock your beer stein and you are ready to drink. Stu had a 1 litre glass so he was more willing to shop with me.

I found my favourite store which is Spanish, Desigual. Very colourful clothes, that I love and Stu tolerates. After shopping we went to the New City Hall to view the 1100 glockenspiels.

We visited several beautiful churches. Since so much was destroyed in the bombing they are adding tasteful sculptures to their floor plans.

The main square is called the Marienplatz and is in the heart of the city. The New Town Hall and the Old Town Hall are both there as well as the Church of Our Lady which is a gothic cathedral with onion domed towers and St. Michael's
